He spent most of his life teaching seminary, institute and supervising seminary classes throughout the San Luis Valley as well as parts of New Mexico and Arizona. He spent three years teaching seminary on the Navajo reservation and fell in love with the people and culture there. Jim was born on June 29, 1940, in Alamosa, Colorado to Lyle and Doris Valentine. He was married and sealed for time and all eternity to the love of his life, Joyce Marie Davis on September 22, 1967, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They would be celebrating fifty-one years of marriage this coming September.
